On Wednesday (April 12th) in India, according to figures released by the Central Ministry of Health, 7,830 new cases of the coronavirus were reported in a single day. These are the highest daily cases recorded in India in the last 223 days. Previously, on September 1st of last year, the country had seen the highest daily cases of infection, with 7,946. Meanwhile, the number of hospitalized patients in the country has reached 40,215. The total number of infected people in the country has now increased to 4 crore 47 lakh 76 thousand and 2.
According to updated figures released by the Central Ministry of Health at eight o'clock in the morning on Wednesday, two patients have died in Delhi, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh, and one patient each in Gujarat, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh. The total number of people who have lost their lives due to the infection in the country has increased to 5,31,16. Kerala has added five names to the list of patients who have defeated the global pandemic after reconciling the figures of deaths due to infection.
According to the latest figures, treatment for coronavirus infection is underway for 40,215 people in the country, which is 0.9 percent of the total cases. The national recovery rate of patients is 98.72 percent. So far, a total of 4,42,04,771 people have been freed from infection, while the death rate due to COVID-19 is 1.19 percent. The Ministry of Health's website states that 11,44,93,238 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered so far in the country.

In the last 28 days (13 March to 9 April 2023), there has been a decrease of 28% in new cases and a decrease of 30% in deaths compared to the previous 28 days (13 February to 12 March 2023). However, some regions and countries have seen increases in reported cases and deaths, particularly in the South-East Asia and Eastern Mediterranean regions.
